Harvey, one of the #operation458 pigs from Kentucky, was very scared of humans when he first arrived. He had a large abcess on one upper eye lid, so our vet removed the abcess and put in a drain. This meant Harvey had to recover in one of our med bays for several weeks. We used this time to work with him on socialization! After a week, he was really starting to get comfortable with us, and by the end of his third week, he gently taking treats and allowing us to pet him.
Harvey is now a member of our permanent potbelly pig herd, and he will come running to you when you call his name. He loves his ear and belly scratches, and still is very excited when there are treats for him! |
We received a call from a frightened follower near us. A pig had wondered up to her home in the middle of a freezing January night. She called us early in the morning, scared that she would wonder into the nearby busy highway. We rushed to her immediately! When we arrived we found Tilly! She walked straight up to greet us, still covered in the blanket the good Samaritan had given her to stay warm.
Tilly was only a baby herself, but we could tell she had recently given birth. We took her to our vet for a health check and spay, and this sweet girl was already pregnant again at only an estimated eight months old. She was likely a breeder pig who escaped and traveled far to find safety. She is super sweet and loves attention, and her best friends, Elvis and Winston. |
Bailey was promised to be only 25 pounds when full grown, and sold to be an apartment pet. He was nearly 100 pounds by 10 months old. He couldn't stay cooped up onside forever, and couldn't navigate the stairs to go outside anymore. He needed a home where he could thrive!
Like Bailey, so many pigs fall victim to the "tea cup" lie coming from breeders. Bailey is now, happy, healthy, curious, and loving. He has a wonderful group of pig friends, and thoroughly enjoys human companionship too. He's a real love bug! |
Ziggy was rescued from an NC kill shelter. He was abused, neglected, and scared. His past abuse caused him to be very aggressive to humans. Josh worked with him daily for 2 months to help him realize he no longer needed to attack people, and he was finally safe. While he's still shy, he will accept a pat on the head for a treat and loves his best friends, BB and Wallace.

Blu is one of the #operation458 pigs rescued from Kentucky! He lived isolated from the other pigs because they bullied him. He was a loaner, and had become angry. After his neuter in Kentucky, Blu began bleeding out later that day. Josh rushed him to the vet and they were able to save him. Josh was already quite fond of Blu and had spent the week in Kentucky working with him every chance he got. This sealed their bond and we knew he would be coming to Cotton Branch forever!
Blu is one of the older pigs from the rescue and is now around 8 years old. He has become quite a gentle and loving pig. He enjoys belly rubs, ear scratches, and cookies. From the moment he joined his new herd, he immediately blended in well with them all, and is now one of the herd bosses! We are so glad he came to us and so happy he is thriving at CB! |
TJ was abandoned at a kill shelter as a tiny baby. He was likely only a few weeks old when we found him. He is now 400 pounds, best friend of our adorable Lucy, the boss of his herd, and loves attention and his giant wallow! While we can't imagine how he would have ended up in a shelter, he appears to be an Ossabaw Island Pig!

Ouisa is one of three sisters rescued from a traveling petting zoo in Georgia. They were confiscated by animal control due to mistreatment and neglect. Little Ouisa was only between 2 and 3 months old when she came to Cotton Branch. She and her sisters were adopted by one of our other piggies, Shelby! They are still a happy family.

BB was kept in a small enclosure with his piggy friend, Wallace. They were both at a breaking point with so little space, and so little care. They turned on their human and began biting and injuring them. Their fate was not looking good. Once they arrived at Cotton Branch, they were met by lots of new pig friends, tons of space to enjoy, and they quickly became loving pigs who always want belly rubs and hugs! BB is super curious and likes being our shadow anytime we are in his pasture.

Braveheart is one of three piggies rescued from a NC animal control shelter. After someone purchased a male and female unaltered pig duo, they soon had five more mouths to feed! All seven were dropped off at a rural NC Animal Control where, due to inexperience with these amazing creatures, they started handing them out to anyone with $10.
By the time we got to them, these three boys were all who remained. The other three babies and the mommy had all been sold and separated from each other...the babies were only two weeks old. Braveheart is now 4 years old, and still very attached to his brother, Badger, and their Dad, George. They are now very happy and love socializing with all the other piggies here at Cotton Branch! Braveheart's name is most fitting for him, as he is the only one of the 3 who enjoys any human interaction. |
Lily was rescued in #operation458 in KY, one 550 pigs rescued from a hoarding case. Since she was close to giving birth, she was one of the first 5 to come back to Cotton Branch the first week we worked the case. Lily gave birth, in the trailer in Tennessee, to 4 healthy babies! To be just a young piggy herself, she was such a good mom!
Lily was a little wild and nervous of people, and had a torn tendon in her leg, when she arrived. It takes a long time to heal those! She is now healthy and happy, loves people and comes to you when you call her, and she even indulges in belly rubs occasionally! |
Potch was rescued by a volunteer who was moving to a new property. Potch stayed with us while they were moving, and unfortunately, they never contacted us again and left the area. Potch was obese and shy when he arrived. Now he has lost weight, loves attention, and is such a lovely addition to our permanent herd. He never has to worry about being abandoned again! |
