Important Message From The Cotton Branch Team
Are you contacting us about a farm animal in need or are you trying to rehome your pig/farm animal companion?
We are currently at capacity and are unable to take in any farm animals (Cows, Donkeys, Horses, Mules, Goats, Sheep, Farm Pigs, Pot Belly Pigs, Chickens, and Ducks) at this time. As we are funded by donations from the public, we are not always able to take in all animals needing a home. Since we specialize in pigs of all sizes (particularly pot belly pigs), the following deals with pig specific information.
The rehoming of pot belly pigs has become an epidemic, with 90-97% ending up abandoned, or rehomed, within the first two years of their lives. There are so many in need of homes right now, that we must only focus on our current residents at the farm for the time being, and are unable to accept any "owner" surrenders due to the large amount needing homes. Even our foster homes are full.
If you are unable to care for your pig companion(s), please first talk with family and friends. If no one is available to provide a new home for your pig(s), here are some great resources for finding them a new home. We always suggest posting a picture or two, or a video, along with a good description of their personality, training, and whether they are spayed/neutered.

If you are considering rehoming your pig companion(s) due to behavior issues, please visit https://www.minipiginfo.com for some great tips and resources. You can also find them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/welovepotbellypigs/
The main reasons for behavioral issues are an unspayed/unneutered pig, a single pig, an untrained/spoiled pig. Spaying/neutering fixes behavioral problems most of the time. Most pigs also do best with another pig friend.
If you are considering rehoming due to a move, please check with your future city/town/county, as even many major metropolitan areas consider potbelly/miniature pigs as domesticated pets and they are allowed. First resource would be speaking to an animal control center supervisor.
If you are considering rehoming due to them escaping their fencing, simple hog panels with heavy steel T-posts are a great, sturdy, and very inexpensive option to secure the area for your companion. You can find them at Tractor Supply and other farm supply stores. Chain link fences tend to work well too. And this goes back to spaying and neutering; unaltered pigs are very likely to want to roam, while altered pigs are very unlikely to do so.
Please never post your pig companion(s) on sites such as Craigslist. That is a death sentence for the animal posted.

We hope you found this information useful!
Due to the overwhelming amount of e-mails and phone calls we receive every day for animals in need (4-5 calls/e-mails a day), we will not be able to respond to the rehoming of animals by e-mail at this time. This is due to staff availability and our constant focus on the residents in our care at Cotton Branch. This is a temporary decision and we hope to expand to take in more animals in the future.
If you would like to contact us about other needs besides rehoming, please e-mail Joshua Carpenter here: [email protected]
