Pillar One: Elevating Veterinary Care to a New Standard
Beginning January 1, Cotton Branch will move into a fully proactive model of veterinary care. For the first time in our history, we will have a standing monthly veterinary appointment on the calendar every single month, no matter what. This is a major shift from reactive care to full prevention focused care, and it will completely transform how we support every resident.
Each monthly visit will include routine fecal samples, blood work, wellness exams, follow up checks, evaluations for chronic conditions, and regular monitoring for seniors who need extra support. This will also greatly speed up our schedule for hoof trimming and tusk trimming so residents stay comfortable and safe. With consistent monthly visits, problems will be found earlier, treatments will begin faster, and our pigs will receive a level of proactive healthcare they have never had before. Emergencies will still be handled immediately, but this new model helps us get ahead of health concerns long before they become emergencies.
Alongside this upgraded monthly care, we will also begin building long-term relationships with leading veterinary hospitals across the United States. These partnerships will support collaborative research, experimental treatments, and new approaches that can improve the lives of pigs everywhere. This multi-year project will take about two to three years to fully develop, but we will begin laying the foundation on January 1. We have already spoken with several hospitals that are enthusiastic about joining us in this work. As these partnerships form, we will announce them throughout the next year and explain what these advancements will mean for pigs at Cotton Branch and for pigs across the country.
This pillar is a major leap forward for our sanctuary. It ensures strong, preventative care, immediate response when it is needed, and a future shaped by innovation, compassion, and high level veterinary partnerships.

Cotton Branch is entering a new era of sanctuary work. Our mission has always centered on compassion, education, safety, and life-changing care for the animals who live here and the animals we support beyond our fences. That focus stays strong. Nothing about that commitment shifts. What is changing is the reach of our work and the communities we are able to serve.
Over the past year, we have been working closely with healthcare professionals, mental health specialists, and leaders in therapeutic care. Through these conversations, one message has become clear. Cotton Branch has the potential to create an environment that supports human well-being in powerful, evidence-informed ways. The peaceful daily life of the pigs, the calm of the sanctuary, and the gentle connection that happens between humans and animals can open the door for healing, grounding, and emotional regulation.
We have already announced our animal-assisted therapy program, which will create structured and supervised experiences that support mental wellness. After deeper professional input, we now see that we can do more. In the coming year, Cotton Branch will begin building programming that supports PTSD related needs, trauma recovery, bipolar support, and other mental health challenges in ways that go beyond traditional animal-assisted therapy. These programs will be created with licensed professionals and will meet clinical standards for safety and care. This will not replace the core sanctuary mission. It will expand it.
To support this growth, there will be a full evolution of our identity as an organization. We will soon adopt a new name that reflects a broader ecosystem of care, a name that honors the work we already do for animals and makes space for the growing work we will do for people. This change will allow us to communicate our purpose with clarity. It will invite new partners and strengthen our long-term vision. The new name will be announced on January 1st, and throughout next year, you will see how this expanded identity transforms what sanctuary can mean for animals and for humans.

Cotton Branch is entering a chapter that will require a community effort on a scale we have never needed before. Our growth is not abstract. It is real and immediate. To build everything described in this campaign, we need people who want to be part of something meaningful and lasting.
As we expand our programs for both animals and humans, we will be looking for leaders, professionals, and dedicated community members who want to step into this work with us. We will be seeking new board members who can strengthen our governance and guide long term strategy. We will be seeking mental health professionals who want to help shape programs that bring support and healing to people who need it. We will be opening up roles that include paid positions, volunteer positions, internships, and collaborative partnerships. There will be many pathways for people to join our mission and help build this new era of care.
Growth also requires financial support. Cotton Branch will be inviting corporate partners, small businesses, philanthropic foundations, and individual donors to stand with us. We will be seeking grant funding, long term sponsorships, and large donor partnerships that can help fuel the expansion of our programs and secure the future of our sanctuary. Every relationship will be built on full transparency. Supporters will always be able to see where their money is going and how it directly strengthens the care of both animals and humans.

Cotton Branch is preparing for a level of growth that requires more than vision. It requires actual spaces where this next chapter can happen. For many years, we have operated in a reactive structure. Limited resources, the challenges of the pandemic, hurricane damage, and even security incidents forced us to focus on repairs instead of progress. We have done our best with what we had, but we are now ready to shift into a proactive, strategic approach that supports long-term stability.
To bring the sanctuary, the mental health programs, and the new models of care to life, we must rebuild the foundation we stand on. This begins with critical upgrades to the structures we already have. Many buildings are aging, patchworked, or no longer suitable for the quality of care we are committed to providing. Several will need to be replaced entirely. The future of sanctuary care at Cotton Branch depends on safe, durable, functional buildings that support comfort, cleanliness, and long term wellness for the pigs.
At the same time, our new programming requires dedicated spaces that do not exist yet. Therapy-centered environments must be designed with intention. Quiet areas for grounding and relaxation must be created. Paddocks and barns for therapy pigs need layouts that allow gentle interaction, emotional regulation, and professional oversight. New gathering spaces are needed for group support programs and mental health activities. Every part of this infrastructure must reflect the highest standards of animal welfare and human wellness.
This level of construction and renovation will require a united effort. Volunteers, skilled labor, local partners, and financial supporters will shape what becomes possible. We will need donors who believe in capital growth, sponsors who understand the long term impact of stable infrastructure, and foundations that are willing to support project based expansion. Every brick, every beam, and every new space will move Cotton Branch closer to becoming a national model for integrated sanctuary and human wellness work.
